The creativity of the Rolex Cellini Moonphases
Rolex’s Cellini collection has always shown the world its elegance and extraordinary style in the classical style of traditional watchmaking, but at Baselworld 2017, Cellini presented a moon phase watch to replica Rolex watches fans, which became a highlight of the show, which can be said to be a big surprise. Rolex moon phase watches are quite rare, and have never been seen since the advent of modern watchmaking, so this is a relatively new design material for Rolex, as they say, “Rare is precious”, and the new Cellini moon phase watch has extraordinary weight and significance for the brand. The case of this watch has a diameter of 39mm and is made of 18ct eternal rose gold. Created by the Rolex Foundry and patented since 2005, 18ct Eternal Rose Gold is used to create the pink gold versions of all Rolex watches by adding a percentage of platinum to the traditional rose gold material, thus ensuring a constant and vibrant colour.
For the new Cellini, Rolex has redesigned the bezel, combining the elements of the classic round bezel and the triangular pitted bezel, giving the watch a more rounded and regular look without losing its Rolex character. The dial of the new Cellini Moonphase model is lacquered in white and features a blue enamel moon phase disc at 6 o’clock, displaying the full moon and new moon, surrounded by dozens of engraved stars. The full moon is symbolized by a circular meteorite, while the new moon is represented by a silver ring. According to the lunar cycle, the phases of the moon are displayed under an inverted triangle at the 12 o’clock position of the lunar phase disc.
A pusher for adjusting the phases of the moon is located at 7 o’clock on the side of the case and can be adjusted by means of a special adjustment needle. The dagger-shaped hands, also cast in pink gold, are polished. At the end is a slender, crescent-shaped blue central hand indicating the date. This Cellini moon phase watch is equipped with the self-winding calibre 3195 developed by Rolex, whose patented moon-phase module ensures precision within 122 years with a one-day error. The timepiece is fitted on a brown alligator leather strap with a folding crown clasp in 18ct eternal rose gold, the first of its kind in the Cellini collection.
Like all Rolex timepieces, the Cellini Moonphase has been awarded the prestigious chronometer certification laid down by Rolex in 2015, which proves that the watch has successfully passed a series of tests conducted by the Rolex laboratory, providing top performance in terms of precision, power reserve and water resistance. The Rolex Top Chronometer, which is tested only after the movement is mounted in the case, has an average error of less than plus or minus two seconds per day, more than twice as accurate as a typical chronometer-certified chronometer. Overall, the overall design of the Cellini Moonphase by Rolex is very simple, which seems to imply that it has more potential to be explored, and the creativity of people is always limitless.
